Sherwood Schwartz -- RIP

Nobody knew what he looked like (shown above, center) but Sherwood Schwartz's humorous, good natured name was burned into our consciousness.

Creator of Gilligan's Island (as well as The Brady Bunch), Schwartz's vision of a diverse group of people learning to live together on an island was an all time classic of American television.

Scorned by critics and the "educated class," it surfaced at a perfect time...when social barriers were falling like dominoes. Gilligan's Island poked fun at the chinks of everyone's armor, and found a way to make the absurd seem believable...week after week. And it sure was a nice place to be for 30 minutes.

To this day, 45 years later, a man's true nature can be ascertained by asking one simple question, "Ginger or Mary Ann?"
